Could get worst her health.

We saw an opera last night, Puccini's La Boheme, which is pretty much Rent (or Rent is pretty much La Boheme), mostly the Mimi and Roger stuff (mimi and Rodolfo) and the christmastime and the poor friends and the guy Benny (Benoit) and the Mimi gets sick and dies. it was first done in Torino 1896, though they sorta modernized it which was cool.

But there's a scene where Mimi drops her key and they blew out the candles and Rodolfo uses it to grab her hand even though he'd already found her key and Catherine and I spent one of the intermissions singing Light My Candle, with Catherine as Roger (she was fabulous).

Overall, I liked this a lot better than I like Rent...

but the night itself was pretty interesting. We got jipped in the worst way on some gelato before the show... that's getting turned into an RG blog sometime this weekend, once I get over my anger and can write about it not rudely but in a more "here's what i learned" type blog. look out for that. I have no idea what to review for RG this week because i didn't go anywhere.. agh.

the play itself was in an auditorium a lot smaller than OCT underneath the Best Western in Florence... It was weird, haha. Very different from the Gershwin we saw earlier in the semester.

and then the group of students we went with to the opera through NYU were some of the most disrespectful people i've ever met. I understand the desire to want to go see an opera because "it's the thing to do" since youre in italy... but does it take half a brain to know you don't talk during scene changes, or during the opera itself or text non-stop??? Italians kept turning around and looking at us and my cheeks were hot the whole show because i was so embarrassed. It made me realize how everyone who did duke in london was so respectful of theater, whether we liked the show or not. It was bad.

today i'm writing a paper. Sunday i'm writing a paper. and then the rest of next week is studying for italian and econ. hoooray. still think the fascism one is going to suck, but my fam and gender one is planned and good to go as soon as im doing writing this.....

It's really killing me that this program is halfway over. Duke In London was over by now (in time length). I need more time. NYU emailed us and said "hey upperclassmen if you're interested in staying for another semester go talk to the people in Office of Student Life" and it took everything in me to not go over there. But I did check out what classes theyre offering next semester haha... it definitely would've been feasible.........................................................

Maybe I'll go again with Robert Francis fall 2011 ;-) just kidding not really haha. i love europe. i love my life here. i just want all these stupid two year olds to go away:

last night after i'd already gone to bed and fallen asleep i was woken up by all the drunk girls coming back to my apartment who had left their keys (ALL of them? really?) and they held down the doorbell until someone came to the door. No one was home except me, or i guess woke up because of it and i had to open the door for them. they then threw a party in our kitchen. They called me a bitch for taking so long to answer the door. I was asleep. They were drunk and left their keys. God forbid someone decides to go to sleep at a decent hour on a Thursday night and not act like a two-year old. DID YOU KNOW? we're less than two years away from the real world, where we actually have to start acting maturely and professionally? NO??? well it's okay, in the meantime, act like an idiot all you want, and be mean to the people who are just trying to study hard and do well in life.

done ranting...paper time.

and a cruise for spring break 2011 is booked! info going out soon....after a few minor/major details are worked out, haha.

anyway, i leave you now with the synopsis of La Boheme from the program of the play. They kindly translated it into English for us. I'm going to be extra careful to type it word for word, because I generally make lots of type-os because I type too fast. anyway, this is word for word. If you are alone, read this aloud:

"Rodolfo meets Mimi, a young girl that lives in an adjoining attic, he falls in love with her and together celebrate with the friends the Christmas' Eve. Among the people Musetta appears, also loved by painter Marcello, but she however leaved him; anyway he surrenders to the charm of the girl and both they join to the other friends. But due to the scenes of jealousy among Marcello and Musetta and the quarrels between Rodolfo and Mimi, living together results difficult. Mimi is very sick, and the life of difficulties could get worst her health ; so they decides to separate themselves in the regret of the days passed together. Mimi, by now dying, is accompanied by Musetta in that attic eher she lived with Rodolfo. Here, remembering their love, Mimi dies."

Hope you enjoyed that... and I'mmmmm OUT!

con amore and wild berry tea,
Becca
